The 24th Glasgow is one of the largest Scout Groups in the UK.
It is situated in Bearsden, a large suburban area on the outskirts of Glasgow. Bearsden is a community rich in young families and the 24th is one of three thriving Scout Groups in the area.
The 24th is also one of the oldest Scout Groups in existence. Following the centenary of Scouting in 2007, the 24th Glasgow (Bearsden) Scout Group celebrated its own Centenary in 2008 holding various celebratory events. To commemorate our centenary, we held a badge competition to design a badge for members of the Group to display on their uniforms during the Centenary Year. We also redesigned our “Group Neckie” adding an additional border of Scouting Green to the traditional 24th brown Neckie with a gold border. All members of the Group were presented with a new “double border” Neckie to mark the occasion of our Centenary and the celebration of 100 years of continuous Scouting provision by the 24th.
We meet in our own Scout Hall which is situated in Jubilee Path (off Roman Road).
Please look at the other articles on this website to learn more about our Group.

All Leaders and Committee Members in Scouting are volunteers. They are unpaid.
We in the 24th have 20 Sectional Leaders involved in running Beavers, Cubs ,Scouts and Explorers and a further 5 Leaders who are available on an ad hoc basis to help out at camps or other activities. Some Group Assistants are unable to attend every week and work on a “rota basis”. This year although we have recruited 3 Leaders, we have a number of Leaders who because of personal reasons, illness, work or study are having to take time out from direct Section Leader roles.
We always have the need for additional Leaders. The greater the number of Leaders involved in each Section, the more leeway the Section has in providing a full Leadership Team every week. They can cover for illness or holidays as well as having the ability to deliver an excellent and full programme when one member of the Team are missing or has a night off.
In Beavers and Cubs, we have a parental rota. A different parent is asked to attend each week. Beavers and Cubs love their parents to be involved. The parent is also an additional adult to help the Leaders with the programme. The rota is distributed by the Section Leader.
If you are interested in becoming part of the Leadership Team please speak to your Child's Section leader or contact the GSL. |

The Executive Committee, which includes parents of members past and present and is headed by a Chairman, supports the work of the 24th. Other Office Bearers are the Treasurer and the Secretary. The Group Scout Leader represents the uniformed Leaders. For other information, please see The Executive Committee section of the website.
We also have a Coffee Morning sub-Committee which meets before each Coffee Morning to allocate space, decide on manning and organise the stalls for the morning of the Coffee Morning. The Coffee Morning Convener sits on the Executive Committee and has an input into any Executibve event which includes any catering.
We also have a Maintenance Committee who oversee and make decisions on the programme for refurbishment of the Halls and who attend Maintenance Days to supervise, guide an carry out maintenance tasks. For more information, see the maintenance section of the website.
The Leadership Team. All warranted Leaders meet together 3 times a year to discuss Group issues and plan any intersectional events. Leaders also meet together for Sectional meetings throughout the year to organise programmes and Sectional issues.
There are vacancies on all Committees so if you are interested in any aspect of the Group, please contact GSL.
The Group can always use additional Leaders . Leaders are needed in all Sections. Leaders can commit for whatever time they have. Section Leaders would all like extra assistants but would be delighted if for example, if there were two parents who could each commit for two evenings a maonth who would together make up a full time place. If you are interested, please contact GSL or speak to your child's Section Leader. |
